The FlatTop - Copper Indian EDC Spinning Top

The FlatTop - Copper Indian EDC Spinning Top - butterfield-machine.myshopify.com - Butterfield Machine

A piece of American history, precision-machined into a pocket-sized spinning top.

Meet the Copper Indian Head Penny FlatTop, a compact, stemless EDC spinning top individually machined from solid copper by Butterfield Machine.

Featuring a vintage Indian Head penny pressed into its upper surface, this unique spinner combines classic American coinage with modern precision machining.  Each penny dates from the late 1800s to early 1900s, making every FlatTop a little different. The date, appearance, and natural patina of the coin will vary, giving each spinner its own character and historical appeal.

At just 1 inch in diameter and approximately 23 grams, this smaller version of our original FlatTop is designed to fit comfortably in your pocket while providing an enjoyable spinning experience.

A Vintage Indian Head Penny in Every Top

The Indian Head cent was produced by the United States Mint from 1859 through 1909 and remains one of the most recognizable designs in American coinage.

Each Copper Indian Head FlatTop features a vintage penny pressed into the top surface, creating a distinctive combination of historical design and contemporary metalworking.  Because these are vintage coins, the dates, surface finishes, and patinas will vary. No two FlatTops will look exactly alike.  The copper body naturally develops its own patina over time, further enhancing the vintage appearance.

The FlatTop – A Different Kind of Spinning Top

Unlike traditional spinning tops with tall stems, the FlatTop features a compact, low-profile design that makes it comfortable to carry and enjoyable to handle.

The stemless shape gives it the appearance of a machined copper coin while retaining the functionality of a precision spinning top.  Small enough to fit into most jeans' fifth pockets, this miniature FlatTop is an excellent everyday carry accessory for anyone who appreciates unique mechanical objects.

Solid Copper & Precision Ceramic Bearing Tip

Each FlatTop is individually machined from solid copper round bar.

The spinner rotates on a 1/16-inch silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) ceramic ball bearing tip, providing a hard, smooth contact point for spinning.

With proper technique and a suitable surface, this compact FlatTop can achieve spin times of approximately 2 minutes.  Actual spin times will vary depending on the spinning surface, technique, and conditions.  While larger FlatTop models are capable of longer spins, this smaller version prioritizes portability, classic styling, and the enjoyment of a well-made mechanical object.
